Speakers 

We are truly honoured to welcome the Ambassador of Canada to Portugal.

ELIZABETH RICE MADAN (BCOmm ( Honours), Queen’s University; MPA, Queen’s University)                            joined External Affairs and International Trade Canada in 1992.                                                                                 She is currently the Ambassador of Canada to the Portuguese Republic.

At the Headquarters, she has served as the director of the Mission Support Division (2016 -2018), responsible for public diplomacy and planning, and Southeast Asia and Oceania Relations Division ( 2010 to 2012). She also served as deputy director of South Asia Relations Division, the Korea and Oceania Trade Division and two Trade Team Canada task forces. Ms. Rice Madan has held numerous other positions in the areas of international business development, trade policy, investment promotion and corporate policies and planning.

Overseas, she served as the Political and Public Affairs Counsselor in Singapore ( 2012-2016), First Secretary, Political and Development in Canberra (2005 -2006) and as the Canadian exchange officer to the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (2006-2009). Prior to joining External Affairs, she completed a two-year economist training program with the Department of Finance, Treasury Board Secretariat, the Privy Council Office and Western Economic Diversification, and spent one year fostering entrepeneurship at Small Business Ontario.

She is married to Kapil Madan and they have three
